Early Week News and Notes.

The curse of being an "American" has hit Tommy Haas.  Just a few weeks ago Haas became a citizen of the United States.  Since that day he has yet to win a match, and now faces a 6 month layoff after having hip surgery.  Haas has been quoted about the situation saying, "the pain was simply too great."  I'm not sure if he was talking about the hip or becoming an American.

Sony Ericsson is no longer the major sponsor of the WTA Tour.  The WTA tour and Sony Ericcson have reached a contract extension for Sony Ericsson to still be a sponsor, but not the "title sponsor".   It takes 13 million for the WTA to have you be the title sponsor of the tour.  Sony Ericsson was only able to go as high as 9 million.  Now the WTA is now searching for a new title sponsor and a sponsor for their year end championship event as well.
